The stack I recommend, by the job it does.

Not an affiliate list ranked by commission. Tools grouped by the problem they solve, with the honest note on where each one stops being worth it.

How to read this

Tools are the least important decision in marketing and the one people obsess over most. The right stack follows the strategy; it never sets it. So this is organised by job-to-be-done — pick the job, then the tool — and it stays deliberately short, because a tool you’ll actually master beats five you won’t.

Nobody ever lost a market because they picked the second-best analytics tool.

The job: know what happened

Analytics & measurement

Start with the platform-native tools (GA4, platform dashboards) and add a product-analytics layer only when you have a question they can’t answer. Most teams buy the expensive layer before they have the question.

The job: be findable

SEO & content

One serious research tool is enough — Ahrefs or Semrush — plus Search Console, which is free and underused. The rest is discipline, not software.

The job: own the relationship

Email & automation

Match the tool to your actual lifecycle complexity, not your ambition. Most businesses over-buy here and use 10% of it. Start simple; graduate when the journey genuinely demands it.

The job: show up well

Creative & social

A design tool your non-designers can use (Canva-class) plus one scheduling tool. Craft matters more than the platform that makes it.

The job: scale a voice, carefully

AI

Useful as a reach-and-drafting layer, not a strategy. Pick tools that keep a named human accountable for the output — the governance matters more than the model.
